Florida Dual Diagnosis Rehabilitation – Options When You Need Help

September 1st, 2010 . by admin

Many people who are diagnosed with dual diagnosis aren’t quite sure they know what that means.  It’s a very common diagnosis, meaning more than fifty percent drug users and thirty seven percent alcohol users also are diagnosed as having a mental disorder. In fact, it’s very common to have both a mental or emotional disorder along with a drug or alcohol problem. The good news is, it’s easy to treat.

The treatment is usually what’s called an integrated treatment. Since alcohol and drug use can worsen psychiatric symptoms and also mental illness can prompt the use of alcohol or drugs, treatment must address both the problems to be effective and lasting. Limiting the incidence of relapse, and increasing the success of recovery. The first step in treatment would be the medical detox. This is where the addiction part of the disease is addressed. Once that problem is handled they can effectively move on to treating the mental or emotional disease. It is extremely important to have the support of the  patients families to have a lasting effect on the treatment. Without outside support there has been a higher incidence of relapse in both the mental disorder and the substance abuse. Most of the treatment programs offer life skills, education, and even employment assistance programs to help re-acclimate the patient into the world a healthier more productive individual. Pretty much like giving them a new start in life as a new person free and clear of substances and mental disorders.

Some of the common mental problems associated with substance abuse and addiction can include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder. And may even include some forms of manic and dissociative disorders. If you have received a Florida dual diagnosis your best bet would be to enter a treatment rehabilitation center. Whether it be a Florida alcohol rehab center or a drug center, your team of treating doctors should all be on the same team. This way you get the most effective treatment by having your physicians work together towards one common goal; to help you get back out in society as a complete functioning person able to care for themselves and reduce the risk of relapse.
